Guide for Setting Up Google Authenticator and G-Suite Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

There are two parts to setting up your updated MFA security settings. First, you will need to install the authenticator app on your phone. Second, you will need to register the app in your Google account.

Installing Google Authenticator

  1. On your phone you will need install the Google Authenticator app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Adding MFA to Your Google Account

Note: To use Google Authenticator on your Android & iOS device, you need to turn on 2-Step Verification.

  1. Sign in to your “Google account” and click your profile on the top left.
  2. Click on “Manage your Google Account”.
  1. Click on “Security”.
  1. Under "Signing into Google," tap 2-Step Verification. You may need to sign in.
  1. Click “Get Started”.
  1. Click “OK”.
  1. Click on “Continue”.
  1. Input your mobile number and select the way you want the code as shown below. This step is necessary to add an authenticator app, however SMS authentication is not the recommended method of security.
  1. Enter the code sent to your mobile device.
  1. Click on tab “TURN ON”.
  1. Click on “Authenticator app”.
  1. Click on “Set up authenticator”.
  1. Open the Google Authenticator app, select the “+ “and choose “Scan a QR code”.
  1. Input the code that appears in the Google Authenticator app on your mobile device and click “Verify”.
  1. The Google Authenticator app is set up. You should receive a notification at the bottom of your screen.
