Jargon

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a private network that makes use of the public telecommunication infrastructure. Privacy is maintained through the use of a tunneling protocol and security procedure. The main purpose of a VPN is to give the company the same capabilities as private leased lines at a much lower cost by using the shared public infrastructure.

A Local Area Network (LAN) supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other, such as in an office building, a school or a home.
Generically, any database management system (DBMS) that can respond to queries from client machines formatted in the SQL language. When capitalized, the term generally refers to either of two database management products from Sybase and Microsoft. Both companies offer client-server DBMS products called SQL Server.

Pronounced “my ess cue el” (each letter separately), MySQL is an open source relational database management systems that relies on SQL for processing the data in the database.
A programming infrastructure created by Microsoft for building, deploying and running applications and services that use .Net technologies, such as desktop applications and web services.
Crystal Reports is a popular Windows-based report writer (report generation program) that allows a programmer to create reports from a variety of data sources with a minimum of written code.
Managed Services is the practice of transferring day-to-day related management responsibility as a strategic method for improved effective and efficient operations.

An organization that manages a customer’s computer systems and networks which are either located on the customer’s premises or at a third-party data center. MSPs offer a variety of service levels from just notifying the customer if a problem occurs to making all necessary repairs itself.
